Debuted at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show, the 2011 Hyundai Verna subcompact is the fourth generation of Hyundai Accent developed exclusively for the Chinese market. Designed in light of a consumer survey that ranks styling and interior room before other factors, the Verna has the dynamic look of a coupe and a 2570mm wheelbase, longer than that of its predecessor and most rivals.
The consumer can choose either a 1.6L or a 1.4L CVVT, DOHC engine. The 1.6 γ (Gamma), shared with current Elantra Yuedong and i30, can put out up to 90.4 kW and 155 Nm, and the 1.4 γ 78.7 kW and 135.4 Nm. Two gearboxes are to match both type of engines: a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic.
The Verna’s main rivals on the Chinese market include Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Lova, and Honda City. It is to be released in late July or August.
