Great Wall Haval H5, a best selling mid-size SUV in China, gets a new engine option: the diesel 2.0L Turbo–GW4D20. Journalists were invited to test drive the 2.0T H5 in the Gobi desert of Inner Mongolia at an event held on October 15 to mark its official release.
The 2.0L, 4-cylinder, DOHC GW4D20 features Delphi’s high pressure common rail system, variable geometry turbocharger (VGT), and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). Rated at 110kW/4000 rpm and 310Nm/1800-2800 rpm, it is smaller, quieter, but more powerful than the other three engines employed by H5–the petrol 2.0L (4G63), petrol 2.4L (4G69S4N), diesel 2.5L (GW2.5TCI).
Mated to a new, 6-speed manual transmission, GW4D20 provides driving power to two rear wheels or four wheels. It can meet the Euro V emissions standard, although only the Euro IV is required presently in China.
Available in two drivetrains (RWD and 4WD) and three trim levels (standard, luxury, and premium), the 2.0T H5 sell for 113,800-163,800 yuan ($17,100-24,600).
