Changan Auto held a ceremony on Saturday in Beijing to mark the first Raeton rolling off the production line. As the flagship model in the Changan-brand sedan lineup, the mid-size will hit showrooms in the first half of 2013 with an estimated price range of 100,000 – 150,000 Yuan. Its major rivals include FAW Besturn B90, Geely Emgrand EC8, and BYD G6.
Sitting on a 2810mm wheelbase, Raeton is 4900mm long, 1860mm wide, and 1500mm high. It is powered by a Changan "Blue Core" turbo 1.8 liter, which can develop up to 130kW (175hp) and 230Nm. Currently, only one transmission choice is known, a 6AT, although a manual gearbox is also expected.
Some have suggested Raeton, Changan’s first foray into the mid-size market, is inspired by an classic: Toyota Camry. Both have MacPherson struts at the front and multi links in the rear.

Changan builds Raeton in the Fangshan district of Beijing. The Fangshan factory is dedicated to the production of Changan-brand mid-level/high-end passenger cars as well as alternative fuel models. When fully completed, it will be able to churn out half a million vehicles a year.
