The M3 is a sports coupe designed by Pininfarina and built by Brilliance Auto. It was released on September 26, 2007. Two engine choices have been provided, a Mitsubishi 1.8L (4G93) and a turbo-charged 1.8 liter built by Brilliance with technology from Germany’s FEV. On the top version, the 1.8T engine was mated to a 4AT from ZF (4HP-20) (the 4AT was later dropped for a 5AT). The M3’s chassis was tuned by Porsche.
While much shorter, the M3 shares a platform with the M1 (Zunchi, BS6) and M2 (Junjie, BS4). All of the three have the same front and rear tracks.
At the 2008 Guangzhou motor show, Brilliance introduced a GT variant, which gets a sportier appearance and the same 1.8T/4AT powertrain.
Due to low demand, production of the M3 virtually stopped in 2009.
